Our Yakima Body Shop Guide To Caring for Your Newly-replaced Windshield

If you’re waiting to get your windshield replaced, there are a few things to know to guarantee your new glass lasts. We’ve listed our aftercare advice for newly replaced windshields below. When your vehicle needs body repair, including auto glass repair and windshield replacement, you can count on Autocraft Paint & Body Works in Yakima, WA to do the job.
Immediately Following Replacement
After your windshield has been replaced, wait one hour before driving. This is because an adhesive is put around the glass to keep it in place. The glue must be allowed to dry so it can form a waterproof seal. When you finally get in the car, take it slow. Avoid slamming doors and driving over potholes and uneven roads.
Over the Next Two Days
Keep the area surrounding the inside and outside of the windshield clear of objects, such as sunshades or decorations, for the following 48 hours. Retention tape will most likely be used around the perimeter of your windshield to keep the glass in place while the seal dries. You can remove the tape after two days. To minimize air pressure in the car, leave a window cracked open an inch or two for the first day.
Avoid using a pressure washer or going through a car wash to clean your vehicle. The force of the water may ruin the moldings before they have a chance to properly set. If your car needs to be washed, hand wash it only and gently wash around the new glass.
